GASCDO Leadership Update – February 6; 2021, Effective immediately, Ms. Judy Grandison has resigned from her position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of GASCDO. Her departure from this role was due to her prior engagements and personal obligations. To this note, the GASCDO Board of Directors would like to sincerely thank Ms. Grandison for her services and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
With her departure, the GASCDO board would like to announce that Ms. Mary Akua Ampomah from Ghana; a Board Member, has been appointed interim Acting President and CEO effective immediately. This appointment would make Ms. Ampomah the 1st CEO/President of GASCDO to come from the African Continent.
Ms Ampomah; a clinical psychologist by training has spent over a decade advocating for the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) cause in her home country of Ghana. Some of her noteworthy achievements include: Collaborating with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Ghana to produce a culturally-sensitive and evidence-based SCD counseling in Ghana; Organizing monthly educational meetings for patients and caregivers to improve SCD education and care as well as Collaborating with other SCD support groups and stakeholders to organize awareness activities such as celebrations of World Sickle Cell Day.
We are confident that under her wise leadership and with the continued support of the GASCDO Board of Directors and the Community, GASCDO will continue to move forward to achieve its priorities, and provide high-quality service to the Global Sickle Cell community during these challenging pandemic times.
